Mere Theory - Towering Sun EP
Promising melodic post-rock from adelaide.
Citing influences such as braid, boy sets fire, and samiam, adelaide quartet Mere Theory have done a pretty good job of distilling them into a sound they can call their own while never venturing too closely to plagiaristic territory.
Accordingly, on this four track EP you can expect intelligent dynamics, intertwining and textural guitar lines, impassioned vocals and post-rock melodies, all combined into one well produced, professional package.
While lacking perhaps the vocal diversity to make it truely great, there are nevertheless enough promising ideas on display here to suggest good things are on the horizon for MT, and the ep has an addictive quality that grows with every listen.
